Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)

LFP (also written LiFePO4) has become the standard for home storage. It’s valued for its thermal stability and long cycle life.

Other Chemistries: NMC and Lead-Acid

NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) is an earlier lithium chemistry. It’s still safe and used in some batteries, though LFP has largely become the default for new home installs.

Lead-acid is the oldest type. It’s cheaper upfront but heavier, with a shorter useful life, so it’s now mostly used in off-grid or backup roles rather than typical grid-tied homes.


AC-Coupled vs DC-Coupled (Hybrid) Batteries

This describes how the battery connects to your system:

    • DC-coupled (hybrid): uses a single inverter for solar and battery. Common on brand-new installations.
    • AC-coupled: the battery has its own inverter, working alongside your existing one. Often used for retrofits.
